I Tried the Jaclyn Cosmetics Lipsticks by Jaclyn Hill – This Is What I think…

The Jaclyn Cosmetics lipsticks were hyped up since she posted her announcement video. Everyone wanted to get their hands on them, believing that they were going to be the best lipsticks ever created. On launch day, May 30th, I got on the website but wasn’t sure if I was going to purchase just a few, or the whole bundle. When it launched I basically blacked out, purchased the whole set without thinking and that was that.

After purchase, I went back to the Jaclyn Cosmetics site to actually explore and saw that the Power Nudes bundle was sold out. Under 2 minutes! I felt really lucky that I was able to purchase them. Jaclyn later updated us through her snapchat that the set did in fact sell out, but they were working to create more sets from their individual stock so her customers could still get the set discount (buying 18 individual would cost $360, and the set was $295).

Side note – after I watched Jaclyn’s announcement video, it sparked something in me to want to create my own brand someday. I love everything about makeup and I think that would be awesome to have my own brand. That video actually inspired me to get serious about this blog and hopefully grow it into something worthwhile.

The Ugly Truth…

As soon as I received the confirmation email, I was tracking my package. I received it on June 7th, a little over a week after purchase. After arrival, I immediately opened them to swatch, and… it wasn’t pretty. Several of the lipsticks were broken and melted but I was hopeful that they would set back up after being inside for a while. This was not the case, unfortunately. Sofia, Mom, That girl, and Isla are all about to break, and Hot Toddy is really melty still. This upsets me because these were not cheap, and the colors themselves are really pretty. Mom, Isla, Sofia, Hustle, and Tipsy are my favorite shades.

Left to Right: Isla, Gossip, Independent, Decaf, Tipsy, That Girl, Obsessed, Hustle, As If, Amazeballs, Nude Af
Left to Right: Ambition, Bada$$, Hot Toddy, Control Freak, Perfectionist, Cheeky, Mom, Sofia, Fussy

I have sent an email to their customer service to see what can be done about this issue, but I’m not sure I’m going to keep them. I’m scared to use them in fear that they’ll snap off at the bottom or melt in my purse. This makes me sad because I have been a follower of Jaclyn for a long time now and have purchased a lot of the products she’s come out with. I have her original Morphe palette (which I love), the Becca Champagne Pop Highlighter, and her Ring the Alarm palette from the Vault Collection, which I surprisingly love.

This one has a small black hair across the middle of the lipstick
This one is melty and messed up as you can tell in the picture

Update:

Over the weekend there has been a lot of talk about her lipsticks. There is speculation that these are old and that they may contain mold or hair. I have found a black hair in one of mine and have sent pictures over to the Jaclyn Cosmetics customer service team. They emailed me back saying they are sending me a refund and to dispose of them as I see fit. I am glad that their customer service is issuing refunds without the hassle of sending them back, so that is a plus in my eyes. I will probably hang on to them until a report comes back as to what is actually in the lipsticks, but I won’t be using them until I know they are safe.
